18-July-2004 INTRODUCTION Hwd; hardware detect package for Arch Linux is based on knoppix-autoconfig script. Instead of running an autoconfig script as originally designed, Hwd script (/etc/hwd/hwd-no-autoconfig) doesn't change existing configure. Only detects hardwares and modules, and provides information how to do manually. This allows user to have control over the system; basic philosophy of Arch Linux. Search engine detects devfs and udev device system e.g. /dev/discs/disc0/part1 and /dev/hda1. The new series 2.x supports both kernel 2.4.x and 2.6.x., x server XFree86 and Xorg. It has a new layout and manual setup guide. It generates one "howto" man page as per detected hardwares and modules providing a detail description to configure both manually (command line) and how to start at boot-up in Arch way. Now user can also update the hwdata in Internet. Hwd has four options. hwd
